Eternal life is a belief held by many of us. It derives from our religious background or our spiritual outlook and it brings much comfort. There is another very simple, very human way to live beyond our mortality, and that is to be remembered.
It is our wish at Hope Memorial Chapel that through caring and creative service we may help the bereaved through the dark valley of grief and into the light of remembrance.

Our Marietta location was founded in 1898 by the Cawley family. Originally Weiser & Cawley Funeral Home, the business moved to 408 Front St. in 1967. In 1977, it was purchased by Bill and Pat Peoples. We completed an expansion project that added over 6,000 square feet to our main floor. The project included the incorporation of the Shipman House at 404 Front St. into the funeral home. Both buildings are fine examples of Greek Revival architecture, and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Founded in 1869 as Schneider Undertaking, by Franz Schneider and son Chris, the business was located where the funeral home exists today. In 1913, it was purchased by Henry Spies and son, George who moved the business across Main Street. Ownership transferred in 1947 to Robert S. Peoples. In 1980, his son Bill moved the business back to its original location. Bill and Pat Peoples are proud to continue a tradition which has involved six generations of three families over the past 142 years.
In 1997, Bill and Pat Peoples, along with Mary Perdew and husband Dennis, formed Peoples/Perdew Inc., resulting in the building of the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home.Built new as a funeral home, it offers more convenience and spacious surroundings to our neighbors in western Washington County. The one floor design, ample parking and homelike setting reflects a warmth that has been appreciated by families who have entrusted he care of their loved ones to the Peoples and Perdews.
